Webinar | Transforming Authoritative 2D Data to a 3D World
Spatial data describes a location and its physical characteristics, therefore decisions can be made about that location.
For over 40 years 1Spatial has been passionate about ensuring that these descriptions are defined correctly so our communities and those who live there benefit from well informed decision making. By having good quality data from which evidence-based decisions can be made there’s a greater likelihood our communities can be safer, more prosperous and sustainable.
Where government mandates the use of a particular dataset to make these decisions, for example, defining voting districts, determining farming subsidies, informing town planning, the dataset is termed authoritative data. Through its mandated use, it demands that authoritative data is current and accurate and therefore trusted.
Up until very recently, this authoritative data has been 2D or 2.5D data, but change is coming. Advances in data capture methods (such as LiDAR) is making 3D data more attainable at a national scale, providing the possibility of combining your existing authoritative data with 3D data (e.g. BIM data), which has the potential for delivering completely new insights.
However, combining 2D data which typically is of high consistency or quality with 3D data that tends to have better positional accuracy throws up several challenges.
In this webinar, we will be examining these challenges to understand how organisations can unify their newly captured 3D data and their authoritative 2D data to create a coherent model for deriving new insights. It’s these new insights that will propel transform in public services to deliver the safer, more prosperous and sustainable communities we all crave.
