EuroSDR/AGILE 2023 Workshop | How can GI science advance the value of city-level and nationwide Digital Twins?

13 June 2023 (Delft, Netherlands)

Update: this workshop has passed; you can find the presentations linked below

Date:  Tuesday 13th June 2023, 09:00 - 12:30

Location:  Delft, The Netherlands

Conference:  AGILE 2023 - https://agile-online.org/conference-2023

Overview:

Digital Twins (DT) are realistic digital representations of physical things with two-way flow of information from the physical to the model and back : one way is a refinement of the digital representation, back is the triggering of real impacts on the depicted reality. DTs underpin areas ranging from urban administration to telecommunications and contribute to local and national Net Zero initiatives. Within the geoscience community, DT concepts are not new; indeed, the location foundations of a DT may seem obvious. However - perhaps due to DT origins in manufacturing - there is as yet a lack of common understanding as to:

1. How geoscientists can best support, engage with and benefit from the increasing number of city-wide and national DT initiatives

2. What geoscientists can learn from the DT community

The overall objective of the workshop is to better understand how GI Science can enhance City and National DT and to identify and start to address associated scientific challenges. The workshop will consist of a mixture of short talks around this theme and a break out session to allow for more in-depth discussion relating to specific aspects of the topic that have already been identified as key challenges, such as engineering the two way digital-physical connection for a DT and more.
