The growing strategic importance of 3D geoinformation across domains such as planning, energy, environment, and infrastructure demands a collaborative platform for knowledge exchange and innovation for National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies (NMCAs). NMCAs are investing in 3D models, tools, and services. At the same time, the research landscape is rapidly evolving, with advanced acquisition and modeling techniques, new standards, open and proprietary tooling, and increasing cross-domain integration.

The EuroSDR Special Interest Group on 3D Geoinformation held workshops in January 2025 on “the State-of-the-Art of 3D Mapping at National and Regional Mapping Agencies” and in January 2026 on “the way forward for 3D mapping at national and regional mapping agencies.” The two workshops brought together participants from NMCAs, research institutions, and industry, highlighting a variety of topics including data acquisition techniques, processing workflows, and practical applications of 3D data.

The two workshops emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration and knowledge exchange among NMCAs, research institutions, and industry partners to advance 3D mapping.  One of the key findings from the events was the need for further knowledge of 3D, including awareness of available software and tools – both for NMCA colleagues and for the wider user base. 

Aim of the June 2026 webinar

While the January 2025 and January 2026 workshops primarily represented NMCAs' perspectives, the June 2026 webinar is explicitly designed to allow industry stakeholders to present relevant technological evolutions in producing, representing, and using 3D geoinformation.

The webinar seeks to identify relevant technological evolutions, helping NMCAs in establishing and fulfilling strategies and research agendas for:

• Representation type and level of detail for 3D geoinformation
• Data acquisition and processing for 3D representation
• The role of standards in the 3D ecosystem
• Free, open, and commercial tools for visualization and analysis of 3D geoinformation

How to participate

We especially invite EuroSDR associate members and other industry participants from the workshops in January 2025 and 2026 to present based on their observations from those events. However, the webinar is open to everyone interested in presenting or learning more about 3D data acquisition and its use in the industry sector.  Registration below.
