Metadata is a key component to support data findability and reuse, to document quality and ensure trust in the decision made with data. There is room to improve the way different parties collect, produce, organize, share and use metadata, in particular metadata about geographical data. Pending questions are for example to better use available metadata to support users’ discovery and exploration of complex data products, ensure the availability of key metadata to support basic discoverability and reusability, better articulate data usage and metadata usage, and support user-oriented query of resources from different domains.
This workshop is a follow-up of EuroSDR-EuroGeographics activity on geodata discoverability as well as of EuroSDR activity on Linked (meta)data. It aims to gain insight on making the most of existing technologies to engineer geo-metadata as well as engaging with academics to work on that topic.
